Proudly welcoming local residents and visitors alike, a 34-foot, cast bronze Neptune statue stands at the gateway to Neptune Park and the threshold of the sea. Constructed entirely through the generosity of private contributions gathered by the Neptune Festival, this statue is dedicated to the city of Virginia Beach and its citizens. Surrounded by the creatures of his realm, mighty trident in hand, Neptune’s gaze rests affectionately on the shore. His heroic visage honors the maritime legacy of Virginia Beach while also standing as a vivid reminder of the community’s duty to respect and protect our natural blessings.

The statue was dedicated to the City of Virginia Beach on September 30, 2005 during the Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend; it now graces the boardwalk at 31st street, overlooking Neptune’s Park.

Neptune :For some astrologers, Neptune () is the ruling planet of Pisces. In Roman mythology Neptune was the god of the sea, and the deep, ocean blue colour of the planet Neptune reflects this. Its glyph is taken directly from Neptune's trident. Neptune takes 165 years to orbit the sun, spending approximately 14 years (13.75) in each sign of the zodiac. Neptune was discovered in 1846.

Astrologically modern Western astrologers associate the planet Neptune with idealism and compassion, but also with illusion, confusion and deception; with religions, spirituality and mysticism, the mass media, creativity in art and music, drugs, extreme sensitivity, fantasy and imagination, psychic phenomena and altered mental states. Neptune governs hospitals, prisons, mental institutions, and any place, such as a monastery, that involves a retreat from society. Its appearance coincided with the discovery of anesthetics and hypnotism . In political terms Neptune was linked to the rise of nationalist movements throughout Europe in countries like Germany, Italy, Hungary, Ireland and Serbia, seeking independence for their nations inspired by an idealised past of legend. It was also linked to the rise of socialism and the beginnings of the welfare state. Neptune also coincided with the utopian ideals of Communism, when Marx and Engels first published 'The Communist Manifesto' in 1848.

The planet Neptune
In art, the impressionist movement began a trend away from literal representation, to one based on the subtil, changing moods of light and colour. In medicine Neptune seems particularly associated with the thalamus, the spinal canal, and severe or mysterious illnesses and neuroses. Neptune is considered by modern astrologers to be co-ruler of the 12th house with Jupiter.
Nowadays modern astrologers considers Neptune the ruler of Pisces, but prior to the discovery of Neptune, was Jupiter the one considered as the ruler of Pisces, even some modern astrologers consider Jupiter a co-ruler of Pisces. Some astrologers do not believe that Neptune rules any particular sign, even though they may use the planet in interpretation.

Dear Friends and Family,For the first time since my stroke almost two years ago, I finally had the opportunity to visit the ocean. I’ve been improving steadily from the effects of the stroke and it was important for me to be able to go there again.

I really love it and it feels like a milestone in my recovery to be able to travel and have fun again. I am able to drive and my language skills are gradually returning. I’ve been interacting with people and talking much more the last few months too.

I drove my car to Virginia Beach for the Neptune Festival, which features Sand sculpting, live music, art and crafts and other beach activities like beach volleyball. JMy friend Rubi came alone and we met Khalid and Murtaza there for dinner on Saturday. Then we walked around, gazed at the stars while lying on the beach and waiting for the fireworks display.

It was so beautiful! We laughed and made funny noises as the fireworks burst in the sky. The time there made me very happy, as happy as I’ve been in a long time. In fact, I felt as happy as I did during my experience of dying – it was like a beautiful, peaceful, calm dream!!!
